What are your New Year’s Resolutions? We can help you achieve them

4th January 2019

We made it! 2019. Have you set any resolutions? Well, if your resolutions match with any of the below, our expert advisers can help you get them ticked off your list.

Resolution #1: I want to reduce my outgoings

We’re right with you there! One of the ways we recommend doing this is by reviewing the protection you have in place. Could you be paying for your insurance policies more tax efficiently? Take Life Insurance as an example. You could save thousands by simply swapping your Life Insurance policy to a Relevant Life policy and paying for the premium through your company as a tax-deductible expense. Watch this 2 minute video to find out how it works and just how much you could save.

Resolution #2: I want to protect myself in my work as a Contractor

With the insecurity surrounding contracting at the moment, thanks to IR35 and Brexit, put yourself back in control of what you can and enjoy (at least a portion of) peace of mind. Income protection would be a great place to start. If you are a ‘regular’ employee you’ll usually have a sick pay benefit – when you work for yourself as a Contractor, it’s down to you to put this in place. If you become ill and have Income Protection, you know that you’ll receive a regular wage so you can just focus on getting better. That’s one worry resolved!

Resolution #3: I want to care for my loved ones

You work hard as a Contractor and, just like us, you likely do it for the benefit of your family. Another way you can ensure your family is looked after and cared for is by preparing now for a circumstance where you become critically ill or die. What needs to be put in place to ensure your family will be financially supported and free from worry? Does the remainder of the mortgage need paying off? What are the costs to maintaining their lifestyle? Both a Critical Illness and Life Insurance policy will ensure you won’t have to worry about what happens in either of these scenarios, leaving you confident that your loved ones will be financially taken care of.

Resolution #4: I want to look after my health

When you work for yourself, you don’t earn if you don’t work. With that in mind, it’s good to put a plan together to protect your health. That could be from initiating healthy daily practices that are time-friendly (we know you don’t have a lot of it!) like this, or by making sure you have access to the best healthcare out there. We love the NHS but, understandably, there are wait times to serve priority cases first and a big caseload to boot. With Private Healthcare you get to the front of the queue and access to top medical professionals so you can get well and working as quickly as possible.

Resolution #5: I want to safeguard my business

When you are your business and your business is you, you have to put the necessary things in place to protect it. It’s your income, your security and, likely, it’s what your loved ones depend on. The best way to do so is with Indemnity Insurance; it’ll ensure that everything is in place to stop your business from being vulnerable. From a breach of contract or act of negligence to defamation or infringement of intellectual property rights.

Resolution #6: I want to plan for my future

With 2019 freshly upon us, it’s suitably fitting to look ahead and plan. Not only that but you’ve worked hard to get where you have and it’s wise to plan for your future and protect your wealth. The best way we recommend to do this is through expert tax planning and pension advice. We work with some of the best deliverers of both so do get in touch if you want to find out more.

Do let us know if we can help you with achieving any of the new year resolutions above. Otherwise, here’s to a prosperous and joyful 2019!
